Problem:

When booting, my HUAWEI MateBook X freezes at startup screen (a HUAWEI logo) and enters into an endless boot loop. The computer can't enter recovery mode by holding F8 when booting, nor the factory reset mode and BIOS by holding F10 and F2. The problem should at hardware, not software.

My guess: SSD crashed. To see whether the problem is at SSD, my computer needs to be disassembled first.

HUAWEI MateBook X 2017 Teardown

The enclosure of the computer has 7 screws, as shown in the figure below.

After unscrewing all of them, backplate can be opened. The SSD is shown below in the red circle.

Take the SSD out and boot the computer without inserting SSD. The following error message is shown.

Reboot the computer again and hold F2, the computer now is able to enter BIOS. It’s certain that the SSD crashed.

Damaged SSD.

M.2 SSD Selection

M.2 SSD has various sizes and interfaces. HUAWEI MateBook X 2017 supports NVMe interface and it requires a size of 42mm*22mm for M.2 SSD.

I spent 25 dollars for a second hand LITE-ON CB1 256G, a 42mm*22mm SSD with NVMe interface.

Install Windows 10

After replacing the new SSD, windows 10 needed to be installed on the computer because the new SSD is empty. I used an USB flash drive to do that.

For more info, go to Microsoft Docs. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/install-windows-from-a-usb-flash-drive

Enjoy it !
